Phil & Pat's Web Home Page

Welcome!

This is the web home of composer/oboist/teacher Dr. Patricia Morehead and pianist, conductor, vocal coach, and editor Philip Morehead.

For the Lyric Opera 2006-2007 season Phil stepped in at the last moment to conduct a performance of Die Fledermaus for conductor Asher Fisch, who was called to Israel for the funeral of his mother. In March 2007 he conducted the annual Rising Stars concert for Lyric Opera's Ryan Opera center. This summer (2008) he will be conducting Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Lyrique-en-mer on Belle-Ile, France. For the coming season at Lyric, he will cover Manon and Cavalleria/Pagliacci and conduct student performances of Pagliacci.

In Spring of 2007 Phil and Pat travelled to Vienna and Budapest in April; Pat gave a master class at the Liszt Conservatory on the history of women composers and Phil visited two towns in Slovakia where his ancestors lived prior to the 1848 revolution (Licartovce and Drienov). In June Phil & Pat traveled to Amsterdam to see the opening of Dr. Atomic. For the 2007-8 CUBE season Pat has performed the Chicago premiere of Charles Wuorinen's Iridule for oboe and ensemble and composed a new work for ICE (International Contemporary Ensemble) called Ladders of Anxiety for flute, guitar, violin, viola, and cello.

The spring/summer of 2008 has been a flurry of travelling. In April Phil & Pat went to Beijing to attend the conference of the International Alliance of Women in Music, at which Pat performed a concerto by Hillary Tann and Pat's Just Before the Rain for clarinet, pipa and erhu was superbly performed at the China Conservatory of Music. In June they are flying to South Africa to visit friends in Cape Town and then attend the ISPA conference in Durban.
